Although highly taken for granted, I love Bach. Sheep May Safely Graze and many of his fugues have to be my favorites. And who can forget the Brandenburg Concertos?

One of the beautiful things about the classics is that words are often not needed. The music itself speaks volumes, moves you, and brings your emotions to the surface all with music. Todays music rarely can do that without lyrics. Many of the groups I listen to can move you but allot of it relies on the lyrics and storyline. The classics told there story without lyrics.
I like certain pieces of classical music, I also enjoy listening to it mostly when I need to wind down, or feel slightly stressed.
My husband absolutely loves all classical music, and finds it funny, that when we are out in the car, he puts his classical cd on and I feel so relaxed I fall asleep!
(I hasten to add that I don't play it when I am driving)
Part of me thinks that he puts it on to send me to sleep, so that he can get some peace *smiles*
I love mainly instrumental classical music, but I'm developing a taste for operatic singing almost by default, as my sister is studying classical voice and I manage her budding career. My favourite instrument has to be the violin.

If you like both classical and opera, I recommend listening to Amici Forever, its an opera band. They are simply wonderful and I think you would love the modern operatic music and songs. They sing the opener to the show "Band of Brothers".
I believe, personally, that there is no genre of music that can exceed the Classics in eccentricity and emotion! Classical is not tedious, if anything rock music is since they all conform to the same dissolute, froward and discomposed point of view. In Classical music there are thousands of sub-genres and composers and creators that will blow your mind away!
