So, the car lasted a full year, after you tried to wreck it, then finally just couldn't take it anymore, and you blame it on American workmanship? I would say that you should be grateful for the American workmanship, that allowed you to drive it even one day beyond the ravine experience!
(Of course, since I am an engineer IN the American automotive industry, I may be a bit biased.)
Actaully, my first car was a Renault. It was cute and fun to drive, but not extremely reliable. Then, after owning it for only a few months, I rolled it.
My first new car was also a Renault, back when AMC was partnered with Renault in the US. Big mistake. We had nothing but problems with that car, from the moment we left the dealer's lot.
My first car was a 1984 Vauxhall Nova 1200cc, finished in a lovely brown *Hides an embarrassed face* Needless to say I put the poor thing through all kinds of abuse, and it still held together. I loved that car, and it gave me an all new respect for GM engines, it seemed that nothing I could do would kill it.
Unfortunately its biggest downfall was black ice, when hit at approx 60mph its not very healthy for the car. I rolled it several times and trashed it, although I learned several things from that experience. The most important being, I am not invincible!
My first car was an early graduation gift. My sophomore year in high school, my parent got me a brand new 95 Ford Mustang and I actually just traded it in LAST YEAR! She was my girl! We had been through everything together, and I was so upset to let her go, but I had to. Putting a car seat for an infant in that tiny backseat required near acrobatics to get it in.
My first car was a little Yugo tempo, (built in Yugoslavia)
It was a very basic car, but it had 3 years warranty on it as we bought it brand new, so we felt that it was pretty good back up on it should there be a problem.
Sadly..the manufacturers car plant got blown up in the middle of the Yugoslavian/Serbian wars, just 6 weeks after purchasing it, and a week after that we started getting problem after problem with it and of course had no warranty left, as there was no longer a manufacturer!
I drive a Ford these days, and like the way they drive.
