Best Car Alarm?

Aside from the tracking devices, what's the best car alarm or other theft deterrent on the market? I don't have one, personally, but I'd like to get one.

Any opinions?

Alarm Car Best

The car alarm system I have had experience with is the Viper system. They have options where the alarm will speak to people who are close to the car (you can choose to not have this feature, its a bit annoying at times). Other than that they have a decent keyless entry system and mine lasted me quite a long time. Other than Viper I dont know of the other brands other than those that are preinstalled from the factory.

In my opinion the only security system worth anything is the tracking type. Think about it. What do you do when you hear a car alarm? Nothing! You just figure someone accidently set it off. Car thieves know this. Now, another good security measure is anything that makes it difficult to gain entry or to hot wire a car. That is probably more effective than any alarm. For example, some cars come with features that make it very difficult to unlock them with a coat hanger like device through the windshield. I had a blazor with this feature. So, when I locked my keys in the car, I had to call roadside assistance because I couldn't get in on my own. Of course, professional theives have the same tools as the roadside assistance guys so all you are probably preventing is the "joy ride" type of theft.+

Well, I figure, if someone really wants to steal your car, there isn't much that will deter them. It's the "amateurs" and kids I'm trying to stop. We all do *look* when an alarm goes off, at least I do, so that does at least create a situation that a potential thief can't do anything about except walk away.

Offtopic but,
I'm looking at alarms because I finally broke down and bought a car...

Well, maybe, but I think the crooks know all we do is look. We usually look in pity and think "poor girl/guy" set off their alarm and now can't figure out how to turn it off. However, I am not trying to talk you out of it because if I did and then your car was stolen...

Offtopic but,
congrats on the new car

Best Car Alarm?

The best car alarm I ever had was my mixed breed dog Lady. She looked so sweet and innocent then when someone opened the door she growled, bared her teeth, her hackles were up and she slobbered all over. She even scared ME!! laugh.gif

Reading these posts make me so thankful and grateful that I live in a little town where we leave our cars unlocked most of the time. When I shop in the next town I do lock it after I buy something.

The pickup we bought new back in 1984, had an anti-theft devise wired in that required a special key, then you could start the engine with the regular key. IF the anti-theft devise was taken out by someone who didn't know the codes, then no one could start the engine. cry.gif When I didn't want the ex to drive drunk, I would remove the special key and hide it. He thought he had lost it, and would walk home.

Best Car Alarm

Crutchfield and Viper alarms are rated the highest in car magazines. I had a stealth alarm system when I had a boomer system in my car and I hated it. The cheaper alarm systems tend to be awful. My stealth alarm activated every time it rained by itself.

Wait a minute - the stealth system rained by itself, or the car activated the rain whenever the stealth system went off or.....

Oh, I get it. Nevermind.
