84th Annual Academy Awards
The nominees for the 84th Annual Academy Awards were announced Tuesday morning.
Nominated for best motion picture were:
"War Horse," "The Help," "Moneyball," "The Descendants," "The Tree of Life," "Midnight in Paris," "The Artist," "Hugo" and "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close." Ref. CNN
'The Artist' wins the Oscar for best picture.
The 84th Academy Awards featured a showdown between a black-and-white silent film, a civil rights-era film and Mississippi maids and a 3-D film based on the earliest days of the movie industry. In the end "The Artist" took home the Oscar.
Meryl Streep took home the best actress Oscar for her role in "The Iron Lady."
The Academy Award for best actor went to Jean Dujardin for his role in "The Artist."
"The Help" co-star Octavia Spencer won the Oscar for best supporting actress.
The Academy Award for best supporting actor went to Christopher Plummer for his role in "Beginners." Ref. CNN
