Well one thing is the loaded weapon is never home when I am not home. So I do not have to worry about my kids friends or them playing with it. Now if they want to get into a sword fight, well that is another issue.
I keep my hand gun loaded and close to me at all times. I do not want to be running into another room to get it if something happens.
I do not think the Supreme Court ruling will make much difference in gun ownership. Those who value their rights to bear arms already own guns and will continue to do so. Those who are against it are not going to change their minds just because the Supreme Court made a ruling.
We don't keep our guns loaded, but we keep ammo close. I don't worry much about intruders, but if I need to protect my family or pets from a bear or an angry moose I need to be able to lock and load in a hurry.
I have transported guns across Canada without any problem. I haven't tried a handgun though. Aren't they illegal in Canada, Krakyn?

Hand guns like any other must be registered and proper permits acquired. Some fire arms require you to contact the police when leaving and then again upon arrival. Mostly specialized automatic weapons. We let you have them but you have to comply with some pretty scrict storage and transportation rules and regulations.

I know how some people feel about guns but IMO, I just dislike them completely!

Why do Americans own handguns? Fear of crime and a broader sense of danger. A new psychological theoretical framework suggests US handgun ownership is motivated by combination of fear of crime and a general sense that the world is an unpredictable dangerous place. Source 3x.
The world is a dangerous and unpredictable place. I own a gun for personal protection and the protection of others. I know that the police force all over the world is a reactionary force not proactive. Usually when they hear about a crime it is after it has happened. Every now and then they find something before it has a chance to happen or while it is happening and that is great.
Not too surprising that, the [Americans] who generally listen to liberal media are basically told that while s**t happens, it happens far off, and that having a gun is only more likely to bring it home.
On the other hand, the [Americans] who generally listen to conservative media are basically told that s**t WILL happen to them and everyone they love if they don't protect themselves.
That the latter turns out to be the paranoid gun hoarders is not surprising.
Yet again, this is an issue where reasonable moderation would be a nice thing to have, but no, no compromise between the two extremes is apparently ever possible.
