I have a lot of guns at my place and when my kids are there they have been taught what to do with them and what not to do with them. If someone has a gun and irresponsible people too that is the gun owners fault for not teaching people how dangerous guns are. There used to be a time in this country when gun safety was as common as owning a phone… not so any longer and that is too bad. Now it all comes from the TV, and that is a bunch of Hollywood hogwash.
My guns are never disabled and a couple of them are loaded. One is usually on me too when I walk out the door. So, the irresponsible person would be the one that enters my house with the intent to hurt or steal… and they will definitely end up with lead poisoning injected at anywhere from 1000 FPS to 2300 FPS.
In Canada, hand guns in the general populace are rarer than rifles. Most of our guns are used for hunting purposes. I would agree that if there are a lot of guns in a home, then it is incumbent on the owner to see that everyone is trained how to use it with proper safety courses and such. I have known kids who go for the parent's guns to 'fool' around with them when the parents are gone, just because of the 'cool' factor. If it is treated as a tool and proper training is given, I don't have a problem with guns. It's those who argue they have a right to it but not the responsibility for it that I have a problem with.
Every one feels they have a right to own and keep a gun. I have a gun I keep on me at all times and my other guns are disabled as I do not trust those that may break into my house and try to steal the guns. IF they can not use them they will get rid of them quickly thus no one is hurt. I can always get more. The one that is fully functional and ready for use is always ready for said people to break in while I am home. I do not worry about my family as they have been educated about what guns can do.
