I thought for sure this movie had already been reviewed here, but I couldn't find it. So here goes. I recently just saw this movie and thought it was ok. The movie does resemble the comic book very well, and the black and white filming with intertwined color is genius. The movie also sported a huge cast of well-known actors and actresses. Here is a listing:
Bruce Willis
Clive Owen
Mickey Rourke
Jessica Alba
Benicio Del Toro
Brittany Murphy
Elijah Wood
Josh Hartnett
Michael Clark Duncan
and many others....
The movie comprises of three individual stories, so the continuity is lacking. The acting was pretty good, but the voice-over dialogue was sometimes a bit too much. The gore was more than I expected. Definitely needed the R-rating. 3 Edited: malexander on 17th Apr, 2006 - 3:20am
I had no desire to see this when I saw previews for it. I have never read the comic books, but I was impressed with the cast. The previews made me think it was going to be a movie all about sex appeal, and my fiance had the same feeling, so we stayed away from it. How was it as far as that went?
It was more violent than anything else, in my opinion. There weren't any scenes with sexual activity or nudity. One story takes place in a town run by prostitutes. Another story has Jessica Alba as a dancer in a club, but the scene where she is dancing is probably 2 minutes long and she is clothed. Sex was always implicit, but the violence was the most explicit.
