Will the SOPA bill kill the Internet?

Bills now pending in Congress to thwart online piracy would violate free speech, destroy the technological underpinnings of the Web and hinder the user-generated innovation like the next YouTube or Twitter. Ref. Source 8

I would have to disagree. The SOPA bill specifically notes that it will not be used to limit free speech or "user-generated innovations". Instead, it will only be used to crack down on piracy, an illegal form on internet crime which is heavily damaging industries. Is cracking down on crime "limiting freedom of speech?" I would have to disagree.

Additionally, the only way the government could use this bill to crack down on "user-generated innovations" would be if such innovations were committing crimes such as piracy, and, in that case, I am pretty sure such 'innovations' would not be "the next Youtube of Twitter".

However, this is just my opinion. Feel free to support your reasoning.

They aren't taking this likely, hackers are planning to take their own steps to prevent any laws from stopping them. How they are going to accomplish this one is what I'm wondering;

There is a group called "Electronic Frontier Foundation" or EFF. They are opposed to anything like SOPA or other laws that will seriously cause problems. I think MrSky doesn't know the complete ramifications of a law like this and how far it can go to shutting down what we now know as the internet!

Glenn tears apart PIPA & SOPA on GBTV last night

Unfortunately the PIPA that has been all over the news lately is not Kate Middleton's sister, rather it's another tedious action being taken by Congress. SOPA and PIPA are two bills that aim to increase regulation of the internet. If a bill going through Congress has Glenn agreeing with Marxist news outlet Free Press - you know it's bad! Ref.
