I was recently talking to a family member, who told me of a man he works with who had been in a meeting with an Apostle (sorry, not sure which one) who told the brethren in the meeting he had held the Sword of Laban in his own hands. He said he was required to put on white cotton gloves, then the sword was placed across his out stretched hands.
The meeting was a training session for a small group of men, in a local stake. It was attending only by a few brethren. He said the Apostle said this was one of the blessings of being a 'Special Witness'. He said the church also has the Liahona, and other ancient things. My dilemma comes hearing this, as I always thought the sword, and other items were placed back with the plates.
Has anyone heard a story such as this? Or is this another tale? I know the man who told my family member this story, he is a faithful, obedient Priesthood holder, and I can't imagine him fabricating this story. He says he was there.
Lightseeker, I heard that story before. It's one of those urban legends. It seems that for some reason this brother you are referring to has a vivid imagination or wants to draw attention to himself for some reason. This is what Brigham Young said about the destiny of that sword:
