You Can Be Good Without God

According to FNC an Atheist group out of Indiana won a suit to post their ads on public buses saying "You Can Be Good Without God" as many times as they want. Some people feel the ads are just meant to antagonize religious people. What are your thoughts?

God Good Can You

People on the most part are good and they want to be good as being bad does not sit well with them. It is in our nature I think. Was it put there at an early age by our parents or was it placed there before we were born by a higher power. That I can not answer as I do not have enough facts.

Sure, you can be good without believing in God, but what's the point? If this life is all there is, and there is nothing outside of oneself to be accountable to, what motivation is there to do or be good.

I have no problem with this group posting the signs though. Let everyone express their opinion and let the free market of ideas determine what will be societies standards.

Brother dbackers are you suggesting you as a example do good because you have a motivation? there are people out there who love to give and help others without motivations or expecting anything in return. One of my old neihbors here in Utah is an atheist but one of the most caring persons I have ever met.

Of course you can! Not every person who call themselves religious are good. Its a fallacy to think that way.

In my opinion, Athiest only think (they are under the impression), that they don't believe in God. The very fact that an Athiest claims he/she can do good without God, to me, is proof that they believe in God. They just don't know it.

There is no way we can be good without God, because ALL good comes from God. Without God, there is NO good.
It is the spirt of God that prompts us to do good things, from something as simple as a smile, to the greatest sacrifice. It is the spirit of the adversary that prompts us to do evil.

Without a source, there is no light. Can't have light without a source.

No, no one should use me as an example, but I believe there is not a person on this earth who does not have some motivation for there actions, good or bad. People do nothing without a reason, or "as a man thinketh so he is".

True goodness in my opinion can only come through us, because we were created by God. We are reliant, even if we do not believe in God, on him for the food we eat, the air we breath, and for the conscience that has been given to. So if one is a believer in God, as I think you are RominaL, then you must believe that our very lives are dependant on God and we can only do good or evil because we have been placed on this earth, given life, and sustained by the hand of God.

So I would suspect that even you must acknowledge that the statement "You Can Be Good Without God" cannot be true if you truly believe that God is the author of our existence. We can be neither good nor evil without the existence of God.

I may have been more apt to believe in the statement " you can be good without believing in God" as there are many people who are good athiests. But I believe I even have a hard time with that one.

You Can Good God General Religious Beliefs

Brother dbackers what if the motivation is just seeing someone happy? The neighbor I was referring to here in Orem who is an atheist is always willing to help in the local homeless shelter, helps a couple of widows in my block (helps them with grocery shopping, cutting lawn, removing snow, etc) and he does it because it just makes him feel AND still he doesnt believe in God. I think is possible.
