USA 2 and Portugal 2
A very active game and the USA almost had this one in the bag to be top of the group were it not for a late cross from the Portuguese star player, Cristiano Ronaldo, that led to a goal that equalized the game. Again, the offside rule played a factor in this game with it being given to some and not others in deciding goals. There needs to be something done about that. If they can computerize the goal then surely they can do the same with the field.
Tomorrow
They start to play simultaneous games so I will only be able to comment on the ones that the TV provider decides to show. I am guessing they will show the first match Chile vs Netherlands match since Australia and Spain are already out of the World Cup.
Netherlands 2 and Chile 0
The score does not reflect the kind of indulgent play that encompassed this match. The Chileans really played good football and in some ways were cheated out of free kicks that they should have gotten. The Dutch capitalized on some weak moments by the Chileans especially when they sent their whole team forward and won.
Spain 3 and Australia 0
At least Spain redeemed themselves somewhat but the Australians were playing very sloppy. They did a lot better in their other games and allowed the Spaniards to be all over them.
Currently watching: Brazil vs Cameroon and the Brazilians so far are all over the Cameroon team. Interestingly enough, Pandora pointed out that the Brazilians get afternoon games when it is cooler and the Argentinean team always get their matches at high noon.
Mexico 3 and Croatia 1
It was a safe match for the most part with neither side trying anything extraordinary to make a goal. The Mexicans had more control than the Croats and when the Mexicans made their first goal it caused the Croatians to drop their defense and go all out for goal, but this only left them open behind thus allowing the Mexicans to score two more. At least the Croatians got one goal before exiting the World Cup on 3 points.
I am backing the Germans, I have been backing them for some time now. Wasn't sure last World Cup but the 'Junior' team did very well. Now it's four years later, let's see what they can do this time. I look forward to the Germany vs USA match on Thursday...don't worry they should not have to worry about the heat this time
The Germans are looking formidable but they tend to lose steam towards the end of the tournament.
What are your predictions for tomorrow's matches:
