Comments: Hi what is another term which can be used to refer to a person who be "low functioning". While at the Power Gen Sports in Penal the announcer kept making comments like the "sack race for low functioning children will now begin" and other ares but he kept referring them to groups such as low functioning is there another word which can be used to described these kids without insulting or making the parents feel worse about hearing the words even though they are considered Low functioning

That is a good question. I think it will be most appropriate to say "special needs children" or "Differently able children" all depending on the challenges of the group or even better... "Special sack race" and then just have the ground crew get the special participants together.

If we are referring to Autism, then I think the term "within the autism spectrum" should have been enough without labeling.
