Huntsman is only 13 years younger than Mitt Romney, but they are generations apart in temperament. Romney trying on Huntsman's leather jackets and shades, or hopping on one of his motorcycles, would rightly make him look ridiculous. But, beyond mere differences of personality, Romney and Huntsman also represent two very different strains of Mormonism. While both men are the progeny of the same class of wealthy Mormon elite, Huntsman's public life is born of a younger strain of Mormonism than is Mitt Romney's-a Mormonism increasingly well-adapted to the boisterous diversity of early twenty-first century America, and, perhaps because of that, a Mormonism with which America is growing increasingly comfortable. I must say I really like Huntsman a lot more than Romney.

Huntsman come from a wealthy family it is true but also a generous one. The families philanthropic nature is well known and Huntsman's policy seem to keep in mind the whole of the People and not just his own wealthy class. While he hasn't really come out on where he stands with policies. I really think he could be trustworthy. Much much more so than Romney. Of course this is all my own opinion on the matter.

I'm not thrilled with Huntsman who postures too much on social issue towards the "center" (which doesn't exist In my humble opinion). Not thrilled with Romney either who as an LDS person, ought to have stood stronger for LDS principles which are in opposition to universal health care and gay marriage/civil unions.

But in lieu of a true conservative, I'll take either over Obama or any Democrat in existence.

I'm not convinced by the media smearing of Palin and Bachmann. Nothing substantive has been said in opposition to those two and the reality is that feminists in the left-wing media can't stand the existence of successful conservative women. I'd be happy to have either of them as POTUS or vice POTUS.

Chris Christie has been a champion in putting the local unions in their place, but with the way so many people are enamored by looks instead of substance, he's going to have to lose weight before he can be a viable national candidate winning the governorship notwithstanding.

Bcspace, I have a a few questions, how is universal healthcare against LDS principals? I'm never read or heard such a thing in church or the scriptures. Many LDS members live happier and healthier lives in countries that have it.

Bachmann and Palin both say extremely stupid things, Kids are better in Slavery? really? She didn't even bother to check that r-pe accounted for many slave children and most families were broken up for financial gain of their owners. But apart from their stupidity, I feel taking money and education from poverty stricken children are completely apposed to What the Savior would want. Caring for the super rich at the expense of the poor seems very anti-Christ-like to me.

Lastly, without Unions would would have very unsafe work places with small children working 60-70-80 hours a week. We would again be at the non-mercy of those who care only about money.

In my opinion, you can't serve those who are all about money in private hands instead of working towards improving all in the country. One cannot serve two masters. Money or God.

Miriavas, socialism is in direct opposition to the Gospel and this is best illustrated in the Church's doctrine on the Law of Consecration; a good primer of which can be found in the D&C Institute Manual Enrichment Section L.

Private property and the free and independent use of capital are the fundamental principles of the Law of Consecration according to the doctrine. Universal Healthcare is an example of a single payer /single buyer system which violates those principles. The doctrine essentially goes on to show, mainly by what it is not, that the Law of Consecration cannot swim in anything less than a free market capitalist system, itsaelf not being an economic system.

As for the socialist system in other countries, they do not work at all. They appear to work because more and more money gets thrown at them and no wealth is created to sustain it. If you start out with relatively low populations and lots of resources (say North Sea oil), then one can certainly extend this illusion.

As for Palin and Bachmann, you simply illustrated what the media does (smear) and have not mentioned a specific policy or platform they stand for.

Unions is the US are corrupt. There is no protection for a worker who does not want to join a union in a unionized company or industry because of something called the Taft-Hartely Act.

Unions are a drain on the economy, increasing the cost of goods and services beyond their actual value and it is long since they've done anything good here. Recent events in New Jeresy and Wisconsin have illustrated how the unions held everyone hostage for their own aggrandizement. Now that Wisconsin has eliminated collective bargaining in the teacher's union, more money has been available to hire more teachers to reduce class size. The usual insurance provider who monopolozied the situation, is now lowering their premiums since the school districts can now shop for other providers. etc.

Rather off topic, but...
(It is so difficult to find one to exchange ideas from different ends who don't escalate to insults and strawman tactics, I think I like it here! And references and documentation, I love it! Sorry for the off topic.)

I read where you got your reference on socialism. Great section. I think you must temper complete free market capitalism with socialism to reach the spirit of the law of consecration and the love of Christ through caring for others.

I am in the midst of read "Approaching Zion" by Hugh Nibley. The book is here, free to read; Edit: seems they don't want me to give you the link but it is in the Neil A Maxwell institute scholarship site at BYU. I guess you can google it, it's a great book. In which he talks about the dangers and traps associated with the constant obsession of money and it's corrupting influence. Nibley is very strong on the fact you can not work for both, there is not mixing.

He uses a quote from Brigham Young that is much the same; "Some of the Latter-day Saints had an idea that they could take the follies of the world in one hand and the Savior in the other, and expect to get into the presence of the Lord Jesus."

As such a capitalist base with Socialistic programs that care for the sick and poor, should not interfere with the united order or the law of consecration at all. In fact I can't see Christ voting down food stamps, head start, SS, medicare or medicaid, could you? Would he really want young innocent children to starve while millionaires and billionaires pay less taxes than they have ever done. Romney has made his millions (billions?) by buying companies. And dismantling them, putting people out of work to gain profit. It does not sound like he's on the same side as Dear Brother Brigham.

Actually Having friends and family in Canada, Scandinavia, UK and so forth I know full well such hybrids, if you will, work extremely well. My grandparents were very well cared for and never had to worry who could pay for all the care when my grandfather died a slow death from Cancer, nurses came to give my grandmother some time when he had come home to die. They never worried. My cousins never had to worry if they could afford college like the rich. Denmark was the happiest nation for 5 -6 years running. When I tell friends and family about our health care and bills they are astounded and wonder how we cope. With 300 in insurance, 150 in meds and regular and irregular Dr. Visits, I don't know how either. I really and truly fear for the elderly and the rest's future if medicare goes private.

They are also, while down in economy due to us faltering, actually better off than we are. The Dollar stinks there. Much to my parents dismay as they are heading to Denmark for a Mission.

What we have now doesn't work, the country is falling fast. It will be a shattered country if community spirit and love isn't rekindled in place of the greed. The greed on Wall street fell the economy and they paid the politicians to give them more money. Which both parties did, much to the expense of the country.

One more quote from Elder Nibley's Book, and he is again Quote Pres. Young;

I'm sure you and I both know plenty of LDS members like this, but we don't want them to be in charge of the widows and orphans, do we? From what I know of Romney, he fits this bill. I'm not sure about Huntsman, but he did wave his Governor's wages to the state, that says something! He comes from a family who is very strong in the faith, and more likely in the charitable and so probably with the new order in mind.

Okay what I posted wasn't all about issues and the family is important, but it does show her state of mind, which is far far from the lower 80% of the country. She has no idea so she has no empathy, sympathy, or ability to work for them. She is working for the upper 2-20% only. What else matters?

Unions are a strain, but what about corporations being people? Someone needs to counteract that and unions are all we have. Corporations are allowed to take over the country even more, have more influence with politicians and laws and the people were already out numbered/voted. That is the reason the corporations and by extension Koch and the tea party want them gone. This with be a plutocracy, it already is, if not an illiberal government.

between I got another book called "Working toward Zion: Principles of the United Order for the Modern World" even though it was written in 96' and the world climate is so far worse, it's a promising read. It stars with comparing our western US comfortable life to the so many converts with so very little and how we have a long way to go before we can say there is no poor among us.
