Netscape 7.1

I am currently using Netscape 7.1, I just upgraded from 7.02 and wish I did not for one reason in particular: memory usage. It eats up a lot of memory and I think it has something to do with the new features in the integrated mail. I have my suspicions in AOL which I never liked and I am so sorry they took over Netscape. I want to go back to 7.02 but unfortunately the way flash is installed does not seem to work sad.gif

Sorry JB, I havent used Netscape in almost 2 years. My company discontinued support for that browser, switching to IE as the browser of choice. Too bad to hear you are on AOL, I used them for years before switching over to Broadband cable modem access. I always hated the integrated browser that AOL offered. I would always use AOL to connect and then use an external browser to do my surfing. I work in tech support so I'll see if I can find anything about Netscapse 7.1 with respect to memory usage that might help you out. smile.gif

Thanks, but I do feel it is a flaw in their script. What I would like to know is how to get flash to work in embeded pages since the 7.1 version does something to that.

No, I am not on AOL, we do not have them in Trinidad, at least not yet. What I meant was that AOL now owns Netscape so they are also in charge of the engine behind it.

Netscape

All this is why I have moved to Mozilla and stayed there (except for my work computer, which is IE). I don't want to support AOL in any way - it is a virus that takes money from everyone it touches.

Have you checked into some of the real geek forums?

I was able to find a solution to this on my own, but forgot to update this thread. To get flash working again or resolve other problems from an upgrade do the following:

1. Find where you have saved the setup.exe file for the version you want to go back to (hopefully you did not get rid of it)

2. Before you start the program change your old Netscape directory to a different name like 'Netscape2'

3. Start the program as you usually do making sure to make the same choices you made as the original install oitherwise you will have to download info again.

4. Netscape should find all your old bookmarks and mail from a search and your pre-update browser version will be restored.

Netscape 7.02 is where I am at now and it is a great browser.
