Humans spend a lot of time seeing about and consuming food, and thus in the typical home the stove is of utmost importance. Which kind of heat source do you prefer - gas or electric and which brand?

Gas is my favorite -- I can adjust the flame to my specifications. Most electric stoves have just a few pre-set temperatures, i.e. High, Medium, Low. Sometimes you need to have a Medium-Low or a Very Low that you just can't finesse from electric rings.

I prefer gas also. Though I have only had them in two of the houses I rented. The favoite electric is Whirlpool. They tend to have fewer problems, and they have more selections to the heat range.

Well, if the choice is total gas or total electric, I absolutely prefer gas. This because of the stove top burners. Much better control over the heat. I like that as I start to boil something over the top, I can quickly lower the heat and it immediately stops boiling over. Not so, with electric. Also. much safer with children around. The burners don't stay hot for a good while after you turn them off for young hands to touch.

However, I prefer an electric oven. So, ideal for me would be gas burners and electric oven/broiler. Do they make such a thing? No particular brand. My stove is Caloric which is the lowest end (cheapest) Sears brand made, but the oven is self cleaning. biggrin.gif

I have used both and I prefer gas ranges. Electric just isn't as controlable as gas. Also electric oven take forever to heat up and are harder to clean. Being that I rent I don't have a choice as to which kind to have. The only drawback to gas is if the pilot light goes out there could be gas leaking into the apartment, unless you have one of the kind that have an electric pilot, those are nice.

I definitely prefer cooking with gas.
I find the electric stoves take a lot longer to cook with.
At the moment ours is a Stoves cooker, and so far have been very pleased with it (which I don't normally like to say-- as tomorrow it'll probably break down)laugh.gif

I prefer gas stoves or gas cook tops and ovens. The reason for this is I grew up in a house that was all electric. Many times the power went out and we could not do any cooking or anything just sit there and play cards by candle light. I want gas so I can still cook for my family in case of power loss and provide some heat for my house. I bought a house with a chimney. I currently have cheap gas cook top. I want to buy a new sealed gas cook top this year for my wife to use. Ok I will get more use out of it. Next year I want to replace the wall oven with a double oven. I like the wall oven because I do not have to bend down to get things out of the oven or to check on the cooking progress. I find I have more room in the kitchen with a cook top and wall oven.

I love gas it works much better with the caste iron pots and pans. It is also much more economical. Like KNtoran mentioned depending on the model it will work when the electricity is out. I am having a hard time though finding a gas convection oven. They seem to be mostly electric with the gas burners for the stove top only.
