Which religious group tends to knock at your door the most? Jehovah Witnesses, Mormons or some other - tell us about it.

Jehovah's Witnesses usually come around our neighborhood at least once every 3 months. Luckily you can spot them from a mile away either riding bikes and/or dressed very well. I have tried a couple of times to sit and discuss issues with them, but I cannot stand their persistence to return to your home. If you let one of them into your home, you better be prepared that they will most definitely come back to speak with you some more.

Knock Dares Who

You are very right Malexander, I let them in once because I was curious. I debated some of the main points to their beliefs, and they never left me alone. They weren't rude or anything, but persistent to the point of being annoying. I finally had to tell one straight up that I want interested at all and that he needed to not come back. They didn't, until the quad annual rounds which I can avoid.

Who Dares To Knock? Beliefs Religious General

For me, Mormons are the most frequent visitors to come knocking at my door.

I love it when they come around, but I"ve come to realize that I probably scare the bejeezus out of most of them as I never see the same two more than once. My wife, on the other hand, hates having strangers of any type come around the house. She barely tolerates visits from her family. For this reason, my visits with Mormon missionaries only tend to be enjoyable when my wife isn't home.

I have noticed that all these nice, clean-cut Mormon boys are not the same in knowledge or motivation. That's to be expected as they are individuals after all. When I talk to them of what I know of Temple rituals, Mormon history and what I consider the related topics of Freemasonry and the Knights Templar, some of these lads appear fascinated, some fearful and some bored. Few can really discuss what I consider the more esoteric subjects of their faith but they"re not professional theologians after all, and I suspect very few sectarians of any other faith can really articulate some of the more arcane subjects of their faith either.

Though I"m not interested in becoming a Mormon, I am interested in the history and teachings of their church. Frankly, it can be quite frustrating as there appear to be a lot of 'secret" or "folk" doctrines to the Mormon Church. By 'secret" or "folk" doctrine I mean things that "every" Mormon seems to know as church doctrine but isn't written anywhere in the Mormon standard works. An example of such doctrine is the marital status of Jesus. I once asked a Mormon friend who was stressing the importance of marriage who Jesus may have married and he shot back, "Mary Magdalene" like every Mormon was supposed to know this. Another example is an incident that happened in the company of two Mormon friends who happen to be High Priests in the Mormon Church. I asked if the term "Master Mahon" used in the Book of Moses as the password of 'secret combinations" might be a reference to the degree of Master Mason in Freemasonry. The friend who began answering the question was, unbeknownst to me, a Freemason in addition to a High Priest in the Mormon Church. He told me that he had been a Freemason prior to joining the Mormon Church and that when he first participated in the Mormon Temple rituals it struck him that he had seen much of this before and the place he saw it in was his Masonic Lodge. At this point, the other High Priest cut him off by telling him he was discussing "mysteries". As far as mysteries go, I like Brigham Young's observation that, "There are no mysteries but for the ignorant."

Where I live now, it is definitely Jehovah's witnesses who come calling the most, although they only call about twice a year, however, we used to live 7 miles away, and where we used to live, it was the mormon missionaries who used to call the most, (about every 5 weeks!) I have also found that our local Jehovah's witnesses don't seem to take "no" for an answer either, they only seem to want to leave our door when they have said what they want to say! Although you have to applaud them for their total commitment!

In my area it is pretty even between Mormons and Jehova's Witnesses. In truth we do not get religious door knockers very often.

The Mormons tend to be younger people who I can relate to a bit more. They are always very friendly and won't press the issue if they know you are not interested. The Jehovas who I have experienced are older and more persistent. I have tried arguing with them once but they will never stray from their beliefs or embrace an alternative point of view.

Personally, I do not understand why anyone should door knock to sell their religion. But I admire the amount of time and devotion they have towards their belief.

Maybe it's because I live in Utah and other denominations are in the minority, but Mormon missionaries come to my door the most. I'm an active member but my husband isn't; maybe that's why they visit. He doesn't want to hear what they have to say, so I don't invite them in but will politely explain the situation to them. Jehovah Witnesses visit once in a while. Again, I politely decline to invite them in.
