Comments: What is true is that the priesthood was kept from blacks until around 1978. This meant that blacks could not hold any position in the local, regional or world wide LDS church. It also restricted them from going into the temple.

Actually Joseph Smith ordained a few Blacks to the priesthood when he was alive.

Comments: If J. Smith ordained blacks into the priesthood, then the LDS church position changed and they held a very different position in later years. I also remember very clearly that 3 brothers in the ward I attended could not recieve the priesthood because they had "black blood".

Actually, there may be evidence that Joseph Smith may have ordained one man to the priesthood. It is not known if this was before or after the revelation that blacks were not to hold the priesthood "at this time," as mentioned by both Zebedee Coltrin and Abraham O. Smoot or if it was an exception to the general rule that blacks were not to hold the priesthood "at this time."
