Recently, I purchased a "bulk" lot of Chicken-of-the-Sea tuna from Costco (one of the "warehouse discount" stores in the USA). Twelve 6-ounce cans, shrink-wrapped together. "Solid White Albacore Tuna in Water"
The weight of 6 ounces is supposed to be the NET weight -- in other words, the actual weight of the tuna itself, without the can or the water. Each can weighed 7 ounces before opening.
The first can I opened had only 2 ounces. Second can, 4 ounces. Third can 3.8 ounces. And so on. Not ONE can had the actual 6 ounces, as labeled.
I hate being ripped off.
I went to their website and sent them an email on their "contact" page about how unhappy I am with this situation. And told them not to send me any coupons for money off my next purchase, because there will not be any more purchases of their product. They cannnot pacify me on this one.
Their reply will be interesting to read. I'll be sure to share it here if/when I get one.

P.S. I weighed the first one because I'm starting a new diet, and part of it is measuring your portions. Boy, was I surprised to get only 2 ounces!!
You shouldnt sound that surprised Farseer, our world today is about packaging less and saving money. It's like the huge bag of potato chips you buy at the store, they look mighty enticing on the shelf, but they are barely half full. Your situation is definitely false advertising, but it is not out of the norm, and I would be surprised if they did anything about your complaint. Please let us know what they respond with. it should be interesting like you said.
Well you might actually get a response (if you do I want to hear it), down here they might just laugh in your face and call you ridiculous for complaining or worrying about 'such a small thing', but like you I think you should get what you pay for... 6oz means 6oz.
I checked out a can of Fred Meyer tuna this afternoon. On the label it says:Net Wt
6 oz. Serving size 2 oz. (56g/ about 1/4 cup), drained.Servings about 2.5
OK, I opened, then drained it and saved the broth. Then I weighed the tuna. I had 3 oz of tuna. I had 3 oz. of broth. By their reckoning on the label I should have 5oz of tuna.
I don't know how many cans of tuna I have been shorted ~ I never would have noticed really without FarSeer bringing it up. Even though I have only been getting two sandwiches per can lately.
I agree with JB, I am sure Chicken-of-the-Sea will respond to you, they really don't like having upset customers. Yet I wonder, are you the only one who has complained?? Who else can one go to to lodge a complaint about them not putting the full amount of product in their cans?
I think if you read the label: the Nutrition Facts , i.e. servings per container you'll see that there will only be about 5oz of meat. The Net Wt includes the broth/oil.

This happens because everything is mass produced now and there isn't a human to do any quality checking. I have noticed this at work. I work guest service where people return things and we get a lot of defective items. Recently a woman return a DVD claiming when she opened it there was no disc inside. I had her get a replacement and because of our policy I had to open the package. Was I surprised when the package was empty. We got a third one and luckily it had the movie in it. Even my supervisor was surprised that our small store had 2 missing discs. As I've said there isn't as much quality control as there used to be.
