Cultural Traditions Of The World - Share Yours

Hello everyone, since many of us on here are from several parts of the globe this is going to be a fun thread where we can all discuss some of the traditions of our culture that we enjoy the most or fascinate us the most. To start off I am 25% cherokee and a member of an intertribal village, and one tradition that some Native Americans still do to this day including myself, is that during the equinox you will go outside and beat on the trees with sticks to wake up the spirits of mother earth so that she can come alive once again, I'm sure it may seem a bit strange to some people but if you think about it thats the way all traditions are in a way. Another tradition would be that when a hunter goes hunting and kills a deer or any other animal, they spread tobacco over their body and say a prayer for the spirit of the animal, to give thanks to the animal for giving the hunter their body. I could go on and on but I would like to hear some of yours.

I separate the two: My country's culture and my personal culture. Since culture is based on a way of thinking and traditions just a sequence of things you follow I cannot say that I can share mine and have it add up as a representation of my country. The reason I say this is because I was born in Trinidad, an island in the Caribbean. Although once a British colony it resembles nothing of her former master. The main thinking surrounds vice and a laid back way of doing things that people generally see as a default lifestyle for the Caribbean as a whole - I hate both as it breeds a lot of unproductive days and frustrates people who are hard working and want to make more of their lives than just partying and drinking. Nothing is deep and often what may be consider 'ridiculous' is accepted as 'normal'.

I have to say your post intrigues me quite a bit. I think its very fascinating you were born On trinidad as I have always wanted to travel throughout the caribbean so I appreciate you sharing with me your knowledge of the lifestyle. So what you are saying is that you don't like the laid back and care free lifestyle of the caribbean and prefer a more hard working lifestyle and you don't really fit in with the lifestyle of your country?
