Maybe that is how Hollywood acts and talks so it is normal for them.
How about bad language actually being an important part of a rich subculture we should, at the very least, acknowledge? I mean, if we do eliminate everything we find mildly offensive out of the cultural industry, we wouldn't have any depiction of war, violence, repression, disease, and so on. And well, I find any of the the those issues far more offensive than cursing. Plus, if there's any degree of sensationalism directed towards a certain subject, it's bound to be a valid stigma of society we should at the very least discuss.
Now, obviously, Hollywood is great in transforming relevant discussions and interesting taboos in popcorn dumb entertainment. We do get a lot gratuitous cursing in bad movies recently, but the thing is... those movies aren't bad because they curse. They are just plain bad, and therefore should not be viewed by anyone.

Sonja, that might be a little offtopic, but you brought an interesting point there. Granted, you don't need to see the full details of a rape on a film to know the woman (or man) was raped. But what's the point of cinema anyway? Is it to narrate a particular story as a mere progression of facts, or is it to make you experience that story under a specific and subjective point of view? So, if you are watching, let's say, Irreversible, which has a 20 minutes rape scene, you are watching it because Gaspar Noe, the director, thought it was relevant that you experienced the pain and the suffering that particular moment conveys, as distasteful as you might find it. Same goes for cursing, which might actually work as a crucial part of a character development. If we're making a movie about a right wing Christian mom, for instance, who's going through a nervous meltdown and at some particular moment in the plot that woman starts cursing frantically, you'll know that's when she has completely lost it.
And please, do you really mean what you said with "if bad language was so rich, why don't we do it around children"? First of all, please, don't generalize. You might not curse in front of your children, but I'm pretty sure a lot of people do. That said, there are many things we are not encouraged to do in front of children, but I'd say they are relevant as hell. Sex, for instance.
