But what's the point of cinema anyway? |

Are you really asking this? The point of cinema is entertainment. |
I agree with redsonja. I feel that if one must cuss whether in a movie, in a park, in a car or anywhere else I feel uncomfortable and seek a way out. Society is trying to make cussing a vital part of it and I for one am opposed to it. I think if your vocabulary is soo small you have no other words that fit then by al means cuss. I am sure it is showing everyone just how intelligent and grown up your proving to be.
Well yes it is an art form after all cinema has many venues, romance , action, good drama and mystery so one venue just like radio or music is shock value or maybe limited vocabulary for those who are challenged by big words.
If they make it and people pay for it then I guess they did it right though personally I would not view it. This means using a good word for a different meaning then it was first employed. Other are just words created for that purpose.
I place it in the same class as nudity or extreme violence and gore. Many do not mind some of them others do not. I think it also depends on the point of the movie if I am making a documentary on life in the streets I think hearing kind words and politically correct phases would be insane not to mention pointless.
Cinema can also be educational or insight full not just pleasure. Though if learning is enjoyable then that is a personal pleasure.

Comments: Historically the best movies I saw had none or little bad language. Jules Verne films, pirate movies, Shakespeare type like Taming of the shrew, Star Wars, even lot of Schwarzenegger movies... etc, etc.... guess you know I am older. Many new movies lack those fantastic story telling abilities and need a lot of f-words and screw scenes to fill in the void. I don't think such new movies are merely trying to be realistic but rather throw in bad language and screw scenes to substitute for poor movie making talent. Movies are for entertainment and vulgar "realism" has no purpose. I grew up with a rough crowd and they NEVER used frequent foul language as is portrayed in average movie today.
