I remember when the Mariners had players like Alex Rodriguez, Bret Boone, Randy Johnson, Edgar Martinez and Ken Griffey Jr. The problem was they couldn't win a playoff series, even with all that talent. All these players and more are no longer on the team, and it has shown seeing that the team hasn't been in the playoffs since 2001. Today's team is comprised of players such as Raul Ibanez, Ichiro Suzuki, Richie Sexson, Jamie Moyer and Jarrod Washburn. The Mariners are currently in last place in the AL West, but look for them to make it interesting in that division in 2006.
The Mariners have a history that starts the year I was born, 1977. Since then, they have laid claim to some of the greatest MLB players such as Ken Griffy Jr. and Randy Johnson. In recent years, they have added the likes of Ichiro creating another formidable team. Unfortunately, this year has been a rough year, seeing them trying to battle out of last place in a so far very lack luster season.
So what has happened to Richie Sexson? He had a monster year last year, but the pitching staff for Seattle lost many games for them. Now that the pitching has improved, Sexson is nowhere to be found. He is currently batting a measly .186 with only 3 HR's. If Seattle is going to have any success this season, they will need his bat to improve dramatically.
