Gates: Mobile Phones Will Overtake iPods

https://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,156345,00.html

QUOTE
Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) founder Bill Gates (search) sees mobile phones overtaking MP3s as the top choice of portable music player, and views the raging popularity of Apple's iPod (search) player as unsustainable, he told a German newspaper.

"As good as Apple may be, I don't believe the success of the iPod is sustainable in the long run," he said in an interview published in Thursday's Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung

I am not so sure I agree with his statement. While I doubt Apple will sustain their market dominance of the MP3 player, I don't think cell-phones will be its downfall. My feeling is that other manufacturers will begin (they already have) creating iPod alternatives which are cheaper or better, and slowly Apple will begin to lose its market share. Since iPods are using existing MP3 formats, they will not have a stronghold for very long. Bill Gates is obviously trying to stir the pot, but I think he is misguided.

How do people come up with lawsuits like this one? In this case did the guy just blast it all day and then say to himself, "You know what, my hearing is losed"? spock.gif

People whom truly believe that the IPOD is to blame for them not knowing how loud they should play their music is stupid in my opinion. On top of that you have to remember what moderation of use is. While flying this weekend I stopped into PALM ONE in the airport which sells all sorts of electronics accessories. I was purchasing a set of headphones to listen to a DVD on the plane home. I noticed the numerous different headphones in their selection and many of them specifically for the IPOD. After examining a few of them there are headphones that are not only noise cancelling but also have a volume stabilizer. This basically as described on the box as an attempt to not have any loud sounds within a song nor would any song be louder than another. I guess this product was released because of such accusations.
