Linda Ronstadt (Hover)
As a followup to this story, now it seems Linda Ronstadt not only has a problem with Republicans, but also fundamental Christians:

"This is an election year, and I think we're in desperate trouble and it's time for people to speak up and not pipe down. It's a real conflict for me when I go to a concert and find out somebody in the audience is a Republican or fundamental Christian. It can cloud my enjoyment. I'd rather not know." |
Hi Folks,
I read this Linda Ronstadt story with a lot of interest and mixed ideas.
An audience of over 4200 people and it was closed because some people stormed out and threw their drinks?
Hard to believe isn't it? From what I read it was a relatively small part of the audience who did the violence. Add this to the fact that Ronstadts political leanings have never been secret.
She's a Liberal Democrat, and thats been known for over 30 years. I'm sure everyone in her audience knew of her politics too. No one was surprised there.
This makes me think that the incident was staged. Those people went there with plans to do exactly what they did. No spontaineous event here.
I am surprised at the Club managements actions, to throw the singer out instead of the rioters. This tends to make reason stare!
As I said I have mixed emotions about this, as an entertainer, I wouldn't want to offend any part of my audience no matter what their beliefs were. So I would not give my opinions at a Concert. Just not the time or the place.
Having said that I must tell you friends that are not US citizens that a great many US Americans still smart over the last election where the popularly elected Candidate was not seated and the perception exists that the new President was appointed by the Supreme Court.
There WILL be some raw emotions shown in this election year. I think this is one of those staged events we will see more of.
Just a word to the fellow who made the observation about Ronstadt and her comment about Republicans and Christian Fundamentalists.
Here in the US those we call "Christian Fundamentalists" have over the last couple decades have entered US politics very strongly. They are a large group that influences conservative (read here; Republican) politics.
When a US American uses the term "Christian Fundamentalist" in a Political discussion they are not referring to the great majority of US Christians who believe in Bible fundamentals, but that Group of Political Activists.
Personally I must say it pains me to see so much polarization. I was raised to be tolerant of others views, both Political and Religious.

PS: I live in a Small town in the south, Fahrenheit 9/11 is being shown in more than one theater and is the only film with a midnight showing. A lot of people are seeing it.

Hi Folks,
Just a comment about the possibility of the Aladdin incident being Staged; Ms Ronstadt is currently on Tour, the Aladdin being one on many venues she is playing now. (Although she has played the Aladdin many times.) One of the constant bits in this current tour is her praise for Michael Moore and her dedication of Desperado to him. That was well known.I would be mighty easy for a group to "teach her a lesson" and have a bit of a fun night out, activist style.
Compare the Aladdin incident to this review of the next Concert in her Tour.
"Pretty much beaming under the flood of publicity she'd been getting in the preceding few days, Linda Ronstadt (news) got a big laugh with the first words out of her mouth: "Seen any good movies lately?" she asked the satisfactory thousands who had come out to hear her sing.
This brought her a standing ovation. Everybody knew she was talking about the furor that ensued when she said a few kind words about Michael Moore and his new movie at a show in Las Vegas and was 86'd by the management
The seventies rock star, Linda Ronstadt, who was recently escorted out of The Aladdin Hotel Casino in Las Vegas for praising Fahrenheit 9/ 11 director Michael Moore, has now got an offer to perform again at the casino.
A bright little bouquet was presented to Ronstadt as she prepared to bow off, and when she coyly asked the audience to guess who it was from, everybody shouted, "Michael Moore!"
Whereupon she launched into "Desperado," the song that got her the boot in Vegas. This time, no walkouts were evident. "
To top this latest Concert reception off, Ronstadt will probably be returning to the Aladdin Casino where the nasty incident happened.
Robert Earl, he owner owner of Aladdin, issued a statement of support of Ronstadt.
"We respect artists' creativity and support their rights to express themselves," he was quoted as saying.
"Upon the assumption of ownership, and with a new management team in place, we would like to offer the use of the Theatre of Performing Arts to Linda Ronstadt for a second concert and further to take Michael Moore up on his offer to join her on stage to introduce her and sing a song," he added.
Neither Ronstadt nor Moore have responded to the presumptive invite.
Crazy huh?

I loved the music from Linda Ronstadt but I had no idea she was politically involved. Maybe she should just stick with singing. What is Linda Ronstadt doing these days anyway?
