Greetings everyone, I'm Kinch and I'm new.
I'm a Ph.D. Student majoring in electrical engineering; besides that, I am an ardent fan of good literature, esp. In the fantasy/sci-fi genre. My favorites include "Flowers for Algernon", "The Man in the High Castle", and "The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress", as well as non-sci-fi titles such as works of Franz Kafka.
My first experience with D&D was from playing the Baldur's Gate series. The immense depth of the world and the story felt incredible. There is a true sense of wonder. Unfortunately I never had the chance to join a real table-top D&D session, and being in Beijing now doesn't help. I can only imagine how much more immersive the experience would be when the players actively participate in making the story, instead of being merely brought along like in a computer game. I will watch and learn how these games are conducted, and, when I feel ready, join myself.

(laugh), thanks, but I found that research is really less about smarts than it is just about patience, which I daresay I've been gifted in plenty.
I haven't found an open game yet though, it looks like the games in Member Wars are all well under-way. I'm waiting till there's ad for a new game. I'm following a couple of other forums as well, as the process is pretty slow, and on busier forums you don't always get into a game you signed up for (way more applicants than GM can handle).
And yes, I'm getting my degree at Tsinghua University in Beijing.
