Title: God Being Omnipotent
Comments: It all depends upon your definition of "Omnipotent." You say that:
QUOTE To have all power would mean that you had the power to create them.
I personally do not agree with that definition. I did not create rocks, but I still have power over them. I can pick them up, throw them, smash them, or whatever. It has nothing to do with whether or not I created them.
We say that God is omnipresent, and yet we put limitations on His omnipresent because He obviously can't be everywhere at once. We say that He is omniscient, yet we put limitations on His omniscience. For instance, the whole purpose for our coming to this earth is so that God can find out if we will prove worthy of exaltation or not:
QUOTE 24 And there stood one among them that was like unto God, and he said unto those who were with him: We will go down, for there is space there, and we will take of these materials, and we will make an earth whereon these may dwell;
25 And we will prove them herewith, to see if they will do all things whatsoever the Lord their God shall command them;
Since we put limitations on His omnipresence and His omniscience, I see no problem with putting limitations on His omnipotence as well. For instance, according to the scrioptures, God cannot lie:
QUOTE Doctrine and Covenants 62:6
6 Behold, I, the Lord, have brought you together that the promise might be fulfilled, that the faithful among you should be preserved and rejoice together in the land of Missouri. I, the Lord, promise the faithful and cannot lie.
According to the Book of Mormon, He cannot allow mercy to rob justice: (see Alma 42:25). Thus, it would appear that the God of the scriptures is not the God of the Catholics and Protestants.
