This is both a sad and thought provoking movie. It is about some young boys that play a prank on a hot dog vendor that ends with a innocent bystander getting killed. They go to prison only to be continually raped and abused by the prison guards. Later in life they grow up to be criminals and seek revenge. Although well made I wondered by the end of it what was really trying to be promoted. What is your review?
I remember watching this movie more than once. I thought it was a great movie, specially Robert De Niro's part. It is a very long and powerful movie It's about the consequences that sometimes ocurr when you are putting children in jail and the whole dirty system of abuse and neglect that juvenile prisons and prisons are all about. I don't know what do you exactly mean by asking what they are trying to promote. I don't think they are trying to promote anything, they are just showing how a person in the circumnstances that these children were could react. Can you imagine being sexually abused by somebody of your own sex, every single day for years??!!! Then you are out of there and see the abuser eating in a restaurant like nothing ever happened??? wouldn't you like to kill him?. That's how these children felt. Excellent cast, excellent movie.
Yes, this was a very disturbing movie, but very well directed and presented. Plus the cast is comprised of some great actors, like Kevin Bacon and Rob DeNiro. I have seen it a couple of times, although the last time was a while back. I do however remember the hot dog stand incident vividly; I was so shocked the first time I saw that part of the movie, I dont think I will ever forget it. It is truly sad how sick some people can be, especially those who are in power over young, innocent ones. Disturbing, yet eye-opening. 4 1/2 Edited: malexander on 27th Jul, 2004 - 6:56pm
I just watched the movie tonight after it has been sitting around for a couple days. The cast was great and so was the story. I thought it was one of the best written and superbly acted movie. Sleepers is about friendship, life and how a single mistake can change your life forever. It is also about how patience can sometimes bear the sweetest revenge. I must say that this movie has entered as one of my all-time favorites.
