"Well I am going to try and find some high ground that's not to far away. Maybe I'll be able to give us a little more warning if they attack again tonight." Jack begins to search for a perch that's not to far away from the group. "While I am looking for my perch you guys think we should do introductions so we are not yelling hey guy in the while in thick of it.
"Jack, Ven, I think I've got your names covered, but who are you, sir..." Avan trails off.
"I'll stay 50 ft ahead and signal when to continue," Avan states. "Well, Jack, the inn 2 blocks down the road and one block left has a high flat roof, you could hole up there and follow Ven's torch to track us."
"Or you can jump along roofs" he adds jokingly.

and I don't think shadows can be heard...
In the lead Avan takes the party on a route to his family house, not telling them of its significance, and will do a street by street zigzag patrol to cover the southwest corner of town.
The party patrols the erie deserted streets for several hours. Tired, you stop a few minutes for rest. A boy up way past his bed time pokes his head out a window above. He shouts that maybe the shadows attack had been a random one time thing.
You all hear a woman yell his name from inside the house. The boy then makes a scary face and laughs, closing the window. As the group walks past the house you can still hear the woman yelling something angrily. Turning the corner the smack of flesh hitting flesh, followed by a child crying is heard.
The crisp night air quickly energizes the group, as they are back on the task at hand. Only moments afterwards shadows come out of the shadows, You notice light from the lantern seems to seperate these abominations from normal shadows. Floating threw the air, drawn to your life force, three shadows attack.
GM note: Okay, the only ones being attacked that you know of as of right now, are the players on the ground around the lantern. The party has now entered combat.

If needed:
Spot check: 1d20+1=12
Then
Initiative roll: 1d20+3=14
When it's my turn
Veneficus picks a piece of cured leather from his pocket, focuses on it and chants
"Magicum Armaturae"*
Then as soon as one of them comes in range (25ft)
"Deletum exanimis"*
Releasing a ray of light from his hand.
Ranged touch attack roll: 1d20+3=14
Damage roll: 1d6+0=3
And if the others are not here yet he yells
"They are here! Rush to my aid and use the vials!"
*magicum armaturae=mage armor
*deletum exanimis=disrupt undead

GM note: Avan your first round of attack is going to be ineffective. The shadows can only be hit by spells or magical weapons, or holy water. Your character could know this by the second round. I have Ven's actions and rolls up to the second round.
Then we just need Jack and Zim's rolls and actions up to the second round and I'll update. Though I'm not sure if Zim is still playing, I hope he is.

After Asthelion and Avan parted ways back in Calimport Asthelion has made a point of following his old companion around... For a while anyway. In truth, although the rogue would never openly admit it, Avan has grown on the rogue. The ranger had kept the rogue in check and following a general path of good even in the face of the thief's own indifference. So when Avan set forth to Kamdrough in search of more adventure, Asthelion followed at a safe distance so as not to arouse suspicion. Another reason for doing this was that, even though Avan held his own while in search of the missing ships, that was still his first quest. He wasn't as experienced as Asthelion would have hoped so he would be there to provide assisstance if needed. Thus it was well when Avan happened upon new companions but even then Asthelion continued to watch as he did now from the shadows as the party was getting attacked from... Asthelion still had no idea.
