I do not see anything wrong with the larger sized drinks being served in pubs and bars around the world. last I checked there is noone telling people they have to drink in excessive amounts. If your a drunkard and you continue to drink in excessive amount then I hope you or a loved one gets you the help you need.
As long as they still offer both sizes I see no issue. I would be ticked if I just was looking for normal glass of wine for dinner and all I could get was a double portion. I would likely just leave. As if my needs are not important enough for the owner then neither is my money.
As far as it tricking people into drinking more it could be only those who would have likely drank to much ion the first place. As for a real drunkard they would just be glad to be getting a better deal. They would still drink the same amount.
On one hand, I can easily say "sure, if there is a demand for larger sized alcoholic beverages, please by all means supply the demand". I know in the summer time after mowing the lawn, I always like a pint sized beer instead of a 12oz. The quantities of excess in the article are not a problem. They truly are to get a few more dollars out of the clients and the additional alcohol is not going to reduce them to stumbling bums.
However, there should probably be a limit on the amount of oversizing that can be done, since the body can only process alcohol at a certain rate. Should a restaraunt or pub offer a glass that will take 4 hours to process to stay under the legal limit for driving? If they offer this to a person that is driving that night, then they should be partially responsible should anything go wrong do to the alcohol consumed on the site that particular evening.
Rather off topic, but... Now this is a personal take on it. I can say that if I am drinking from a small glass that has not been chilled, then I will likely drink faster as to make sure that I am consuming a colder beverage. If I am drinking from a larger glass, I can take my time (and do) as the liquid stay cooler. So honestly, I think the doctors should look at consumption speed. If someone wants to get loaded, they will with small glasses, large glasses or even drinking beer from a shot glass. If it is the goal, any vessel will do! |
YEs that is it exactly. If a person wants to drink in excessive amount they are going to no matter the size of the drink to begin with. I think most bars/pubs would rather have a person in there who is drinking with friends to have a good time rather than the person who is in there to become totally drunk.
Against The Law To Serve Super-sized Drinks
New York City's health board has passed a rule banning super-sized, sugary drinks at restaurants, concession stands and other eateries. The new regulation puts a 16-ounce size limit on cups and bottles of non-diet soda, sweetened teas and other calorie-packed beverages. Ref. USAToday
