If you were placed in a situation where there was no food or water like being on a raft in the middle of the ocean, what could you do - if anything - to prolong your life? Would drinking sea water help at least to have liquid in your body? Would it be better to be under the raft and come up for air occasionally or in the raft taking the hot sun?

Drinking sea water would probably do more harm than good. Sea water is salty , so drinking this will only cause you to dehydrate even faster. Not to mention the water is not clean to drink. So you risk catching a disease. But if it came down to a last resort and I know I was close to death. I would drink the sea water. In the Army they teach us to purify water by using Iodine tablets or boiling water. So when going hiking, camping , or boating. It's always a good idea to travel with a survival kit.

My understanding is that one of the worst things you could do is drink the sea water. It will lead to hallucination and delusions. You will then end up dead, you imagine you see land or a ship and you start swimming to it, for example. It drives you mad.
You can collect dew overnight and use it to rehydrate to some extent. Also, I have heard you could drink your urine. It is actually very sterile.

Yes drinking the sea water will make things worst. But I think you would get so desperate out there you would eventually drink the sea water. Even without drinking the sea water you will start to hallucinate from long exposure to the heat and without water. But wouldn't you think drinking urine is just as bad as drinking sea water. I know boiling the urine would make it drinkable. They have a survival school in the military , that's mandatory for all pilot's. They teach you so many survival tips. I think it was back in the 90's a pilot was shot down over Bosnia. He survived by drinking the morning dew from the grass.
There is one thing we need to keep in mind - how would we collect the dew if we have nothing with which to collect it with? Also, no one has addressed the heat issues as regards to wether it is better to be under the raft and in the water or on top of it. In addition to this I believe less physical activity is best to avoid a greater thirst and/or hunger.
