Wow, that's so cool. I cannot wait for the match between Argentina-Italy. It's always a classic when these two teams play together. If Paraguay beats Iraq and Argentina beats Italy, I can imagine the emotion of that final! (Paraguay and Argentina would be a fantastic game!, they have a very good team).
Let's cross fingers and hope Argentina gets the gold!
The Iraqi's are playing their hearts out ! Now that Saddam's son is not around to torture them after the games. I think they will bring a medal back home. What do you think ? Edited: darius on 24th Aug, 2004 - 7:25am
Iraq's hopes of bringing home a medal are still alive even though they lost to Paraguay today 3-1. They now play Italy in the Bronze medal game on Aug 27th. Paraguay will meet Argentina in the finals for gold after the Argentines defeated Italy 3-0. Not bad for an Italian Under 21 squad, who did not field any of their World Cup team. The finals for Gold and Silver will be on Aug 28th. Should be an interesting South American final match!
Final results from the Olympics football tournament.
Argentina 1 - Paraguay 0
Argentina wins the elusive gold medal defeating fellow South Americans Paraguay.
Italy 1 - Iraq 0
Iraq's dreams of winning an Olympic medal come short but they went further than most anyone thought they would
In the Women's draw, the US team won their second goal in the last 3 Olympics defeating Brazil 2-1 in extra time. The German team won bronze over the Swedes 1-0.
GOLD MEDAL FOR ARGENTINA!!!! I cannot express with words how HAPPY I feel about my country winning a gold medal! Argentina won all the games they played and they deserved it because they were the greatest of all teams.
LOVE YOU ARGENTINA!!!! TE AMO ARGENTINA!!!!

Mia Hamm was selected to carry the US flag during the Olympic closing ceremonies on Sunday. This marks the first time a football player has been selected by the US for this prestigious honor. This solidifies the importance and acceptance of football (soccer) in the US and is a great recognition of one of the greatest female football players ever.
I'm happy Argentina won the gold. Funny, here in the U.S. NBC said little or nothing about men's soccer during their Olympic coverage. I guess they focus on the events the Americans excel in and ignore the rest. Will this be the same team Argentina takes to the next World Cup?
