So much oil, so much resources, yet the people are so poor and the money (bolivar) has no value?

The Venezuelan people against Chavez seems to be growing in number, but I suspect that Venezuelans are willing to give up freedoms for the sake of lower prices and a better opportunities.

Chavez will be in a interesting situation in the future. The more of the economy that the government takes control of the more responsible he and his government become for the results. Of course, any shortfalls or problems in the road ahead will be blamed on Bush or whoever is in office, but it will be a good deal more difficult to give oil away if you are controlling and paying to control everthing. He might get prices down for a while by pure force, but he is actually responsible for not building the infrastructure and government to foster growth that raised the prices in the first place.

The number of people against him will continue to rise slowly as he moves towards socialism. He might get some temporary victories with pricing, but I really don't see how they can be sustained and invision rampant inflation in the future (yes even worse than now). This will happen especially if he keeps giving oil away...it is their only source of money to keep prices locked.

Chavez is a smart character. I can think of no other that has had a successful coup against them and they actually emerge as the leader following the coup. AMAZING... Pathetic, but none the less, amazing!

Venezuela History & Civil Business Politics

Well keep in mind that Chavez is not thinking of dong 'battle' alone. He wants to create the 'European Union' of South America with maybe him as the front so he can speak with the backing of many nations and not just Venezuela. This is a goal that may take root soon based on how I see other Latin countries reacting to the idea.

I think South American unionizing for improving their situation is a great idea. I just don't think that Chavez is the guy that can do it. I just don't see how it can be done under a veil of socialism without force. That is how Russia did it for so long.

He's certainly setting the stage for "something." What that "something" is remains to be seen, and certainly should be watched.

This is what Chavez knew would happen, the probable next move would be for him to simply sieze the assets and then look out to see what the USA's retaliation will be.

I have watched many of the programs showing the military hardware and it is so devastating that they wouldn't have a chance, but in a subvertly conducted war like al Quida they just might have a chance. Right now the borders of then southern US are so open that they could slip allot of people and things into the country.
