There have been far too many cases recently of children and people being hurt by these pit bulls, I agree that you bring them up as nicely as you like, but at the end of the day, it's their instinct to fight, which thus makes them vicious and aggressive.
There has just a couple of weeks ago in England been a horrific case of a little 5 year old girl that has been killed by a pit bull, tearing her apart, but since this has happened, there has been an investigation into the circumstances, and 37 pit bulls have been confiscated, whilst the police check whether this particular dog had been trained as part of an illegal dog fighting trade.
What maddens me even more, is that the dog belonged to the little girls family, and surely somebody should have been held responsible for letting the dog anywhere near the child!
This so far is an ongoing investigation.

I am an animal lover and agree most bad dogs are the outcome of poor handling by the owner. There are two breeds I will not include in this category that is Pitbulls and rottweiler these two characters are just not completely stable. I am not saying that all will snap but do you really want to take your child and place them with this animal and hope you got one of the good ones?
I woulds like to address the example of the Rottweiler and Doberman cross. Once you cross breed an animal you changes the characteristics of it. This is a good thing in most cases as the dog tens to be less highly strung. A calm dog is a good one.
I knew a Rottweiler breeder who stopped breeding them because he found a lack of new blood lines in which to breed his dogs with. So what is occurring is a lot of inbreedings which he claimed brings out the aggressiveness in the animals and that he himself found that then bred tended to either snap at 2 or 3 years of age or they went past those years and were ok. FYI he refused to sell one of his dogs to any one with children!
Rather off topic, but... My only plea to dog owners out there is please muzzle your dog in public. All dogs bite at some point! Not because their mean but because they feel threatened by some twit who come at them way to fast and then speaks loudly! |
This woman is alive by a miracle! My goodness, I can't imagine the pain she went through, not even the police officers were able to easily stop these dogs!

GIG HARBOR, Wash. - Two pit bull terriers broke into a house through a pet door Tuesday and attacked a woman in her bed, mauling her badly, a Pierce County sheriff's spokesman said. The woman was able to grab a gun and try to shoot the dogs, then break away from the attack and lock herself in her car, where she called 911, sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer said. The woman, who was not immediately identified, was taken to a hospital in Tacoma, where she was listed in serious condition. Officers planned to talk to the dogs' owner. The pit bulls also killed a neighbor's Jack Russell terrier, which entered the house during the attack, Troyer said. "The thought is that the Jack Russell heard noise in the neighbor's house, came in and was attacked by the dogs," Troyer said. Firefighters responded first, locking the dogs in the house, treating the woman and calling for an ambulance. Officers "had to pepper spray and fight the dogs until they were detained. We almost had to shoot them on site," Troyer said. The dogs were taken to a Humane Society and will probably be destroyed, he said. |
??? Why on earth did they not shoot the dogs to start! They are attacking this poor lady. I just do not see why the attacking animals still has more rights then the victim. This poor soul will never feel safe in her own home again, this is very heart breaking for me.
The village my parents live in of late has some big dogs in it some of which were untied. My mother was not feeling safe to walk to get her mail. My dad did complain to owners and to the city, who did send a warning to all owners but never got off their butts to see if they ever did fence them in or tie them up.
My dad now carries a "walking stick" till it is resolved, he is a big guy and it would not be the first dog he has removed from this earth. I just fear he would be the one in jail not the owner! Two of the owner tied up their dogs but one still is loose.
