"That is likely," Durgan answers. "Ghosts have been known to manifest through illusions or other magical effects."
After a pause he asks the room in general, "If you're in here make a noise once! Slam a door, close a book, drop something, whatever!"
As they wait for a response, Sessativa whispers, "Or they could just be invisible."
Out of Character: I think it's reasonable to wait about a minute or so.
Making a estimate of the coins you can tell it is a good amount. 3,000 PP, 36,000 Gold, 47,000 silver and 44,000 copper. The jewelry you will need to get appraised. The wardrobe is locked.
After waiting for a couple minutes you do not see or hear anything but you do smell lavender in the air.
Sessativa breaks the eerie silence, "Seems to be abandoned, just like the journal says, 15 years ago. The illusion and the warm candle could have been residual magic effects, the building itself keeping the memory of its previous occupant. Should we wait to make sure he doesn't return? That bed looks awfully comfortable."
Durgan adds, "Maybe even wait a few days, search every nook and cranny and clear out whatever remains of the giant spiders."
Sessativa says, "I could identify some of these items in that time. There is also that very heavy door that we couldn't get open, I can prepare a spell for that tomorrow. What do you think, Zork?"
Out of Character: Would we know the local laws regarding squatter's rights and whether a building transfers ownership if you stay long enough?
Zork says, "There is enough treasure here to greatly expand our kingdoms!"
He then listens to the waiting and says, "I don't know… if anyone comes along how do we defend against it with all the spiders gone?"
He then looks out the window to find his horse and dog, "Plus my friends downstairs are waiting… anyway you decide."
Out of Character: Durgan is okay with being blind all this time?
Out of Character: Local government does not really extend much to ruins. If you occupy said ruin and the local government does not say anything then it is yours to keep. However if you go to a ruins on behalf of someone then the owner ship of said ruins is in their name. IF they do not wish to take ownership then they can sale the ruins to another. If said owner makes no attempt to make repairs in a year then anyone living there could take over ownership by means of repairing and making it their home.
"I'm sure you could wait 10 minutes though," she replies. "And we can go downstairs at any time to your animals."
She then begins the ritual to cast Identify on the robe she picked up, reasoning that if it enhances her magic, then it should be first.
When finished, she leads Durgan downstairs to the heavy double door. "You know what… This is probably to front door. Zork, do you want to head outside and knock on it? I'll knock back."
Out of Character: Durgan isn't okay with being blind, but he's resigned himself into thinking that it's permanent.
I think the last thing we identified was the sword from the secret compartment. How long will the rest of the magical gear take, considering I have 2 first level spell slots? I can prepare it in my single level 2 slot as well, right?
Actually, double checking everything, after this post and spending the 100 gp Durgan had in his pocket, I don't have enough carried wealth to cast it. Would we have to go back to town to use the savings left at the house?
