The Clerics set about to consecrating the temple again. Making sure that no evil is still present in the temple. As they finish the main chamber the light brightens and you all see a vision appear before you. It looks like a elderly elf. He beckons you all closer. What is your reaction?
Zork watches the elf carefully with some level of mistrust. Maybe this is the guardian of the treasure and he will want it all back he thinks. He goes closer but not as close as the others.
On the other hand, Durgan is heedless of any danger. This is clearly the patron of the temple come to thank us. He walks forward with a confident stride.
The clerics join Durgan moving closer to the elderly elf. Once everyone is close the elf speaks very softly. "Long have I dwelt here watching this place as if fell to ruin and then evil took it over. I thank you for ridding my temple of the evil and the steps you have taken to making it consecrated hallow ground once again. I long ago lost my body but I still hold some power here. Before I wasted away I did secret a lot of the treasures into a secret vault. I hope that this is payment enough for you and all that you did. May your lives be peaceful and rewarding." As the elf begins to fade you see in a small part of the floor what looks like a small catch. What do you wish to do now?
"That is most gracious of you, many thanks," Durgan says to thin air.
Then he speaks to Zork, "I'm not the strongest here, Zork. Would you mind pulling the catch, while we stand ready? I am not saying the elves have set a trap, but there could still be more undead that haven't been noticed."
"Trap?" Zork thinks on that word for a few seconds. "No one with skills among us that can find out if there are traps?" He takes his broadsword and pokes at the catch. If nothing happens he will pull it up to try and open it.
If he's not strong enough, Durgan offers assistance.
You poke at the catch with your sword and nothing seems to happen. You reach down and pull on the latch you hear a slight click and then the slab on the floor begins to rotate up. As it pivots up you can see a hole with steps leading down appear. Do you wish to go down the steps?
The steps lead down to a small hidden room. Within the room you can see shelves with a few chests upon them and many shelves holding golden items. Other shelves have golden religious items on them. Opening the chests you can see they are filled with gold coins. If you count the coins you will see there is 12,000 in gold here.
Zork shouts up, "Nothing here but gold, lot and lots of gold!" Smiling at the find he considers how they will move it since the animals are already burdened from the other treasure. He calls the clerics down to have a look while he goes back up to remain as watch.
"Oh yes!" Durgan shouts. "Thank the elves and their gods!"
"Is anything magical?" He asks the clerics, less suspicious of curses and evil in the elves' own vault. He can check for himself, but would have to wait to the next day.
He begins piling it into his pack to bring to the animals, offloads it and takes that trip a few times.
What was in the pile of treasures from before? Adding the coins from before and the new ones what's the total? I'm sorry for making it an accounting game, but a list would be nice!
