Durgan doesn't admit it to the salesman, but he thinks that the war horses will do fine. The more inept they look, the more likely they will be targeted. The speed of travel doesn't really matter (If that's okay with you).
Durgan will buy just one wagon and the boxes for 155 gold.
He will also buy the plate armour and a cloak to cover it. He doesn't want to make it obvious that he's preparing a trap.
When paying for the goods, he will purposefully put a small pile of about 50 platinum on the vendor's table. He counts out the price slowly and places the rest back in his pouch.
The vender will look at the pile of platinum and ask you are you sure you want to pay that much? I will help you with anything you need and see that you have a very good wagon and a couple horses to pull it with for that. HE calls for one of his assistants and tells them to get you anything you need no questions asked. He tells you to go ahead and got with Ben here and he will see that you are outfitted as you see fit. They both are very, very friendly with you to make sure you get exactly what you need.

Durgan was just showing off that he had that much coin, to make himself a target. But depending on the quality of the wagon presented, he may return back to his pocket 15 or even less of his platinum. He wants to pay a fair price for it, adding 1 platinum for the service.
(I temporarily forgot the conversion factor was 1:5. I thought 50 pp would be an extremely impressive amount.)
So the armour and cloak for 400 gold is fine?
With the purchases complete, Durgan returns to his place, where they all set up the wagon. He adds his two weeks of rations to the load of Morg'Thal and Emily in the wagon.
He will wait for the house seller with the title deed at midday, and give Sessativa the key to the house, giving her free reign for a few weeks.

Out of Character: : Yes the 400 was good for the armor and the cloak. Yes the 50 PP clear impressed them. I am sure that they will tell their friends of you and describe you so that you will get great service no matter where you go.
The House seller is there right on time with your title and the spare keys. He would advise you to talk to a blacksmith about the feasibility of getting the locks changed.
Durgan thanks the seller again, and leaves the deed in the secret room. After handing Sessativa the current key, he asks her to organise a change of locks and hopes she will be there to open the door when he returns.
After the party has prepared everything, they finally head off to the south gate to hunt some bandits. They travel at a fast pace, hoping to reach the first travelling lodge by nightfall.
Morg'Thal makes himself comfortable in the back of the wagon while hiding himself, his weapon always within hand reach. He always tries to stay as close as possible to Emily (After all, he is young and it is the first time he can get close to a girl)
Zork cannot do much 'hiding', he already looks the part of a warmonger specially now that he has his horse. He says, "Perhaps I will play the part of the lone guard for the wagon so they might think I will be easy to pick off."
"Same here, Zork. I hope my armour isn't showing through from under this cloak. As a guard you will want to be at the front then, or would you prefer the rear? I will take the other position."
